Metis fiddler, Brianna Lizotte, playing for the junior and senior high students in our gymnasium.
"Brianna Lizotte is a JUNO nominated fiddler currently living in Edmonton Alberta. She grew up in a household where music was constantly played, whether it was from home videos or kitchen parties. At the age of 10, most of the musicians in the family passed away, so she took it upon herself to keep the music alive. This has led her to many opportunities such as graduating from MacEwan University’s Bachelor of Music program in 2023, competing twice in the Canadian Grand Masters, performing for various music festivals across Alberta, and traveling to Rome to support the Metis delegates during their meetings with the Pope in 2022.
Brianna currently has two albums out, Scratch ‘Em which was released in 2018 and her newest project “Winston & I” which was released in July of 2024. Both received radio play on CBC Radio, CJSR, AND CKUA’s Top 30 chart.
Apart from performing, Brianna can be found teaching Metis History Through Music and Dance workshops to students across the province with Ethan Graves and in studios recording for documentaries, EPs, singles, and short films. She looks forward to developing her voice in the music industry and continuing to honour her culture through fiddling."
Grade 9s enjoyed their tour of the parliament building in Edmonton, AB, they also participated in a mock legislative assembly as part of their social studies curriculum.
"The program is a fun and engaging way for students to learn about government and the legislative system. It guides them through the stages of passing a Bill and introduces them to the excitement, strategy and skill of debate."
On April 15th we gathered as a school to celebrate N.B.'s successful battle with leukemia. During this ceremony he rang a bell to symbolize his completion of treatments. We are so incredibly thankful for everyone who has helped Nash along the way such as doctors, nurses, his parents, teachers, and EAs.
